Woman with Fig portrays a beautiful red-haired woman seated under a fig tree on the banks of a tranquil lotus pond, in a garden overlooking the sea.
The young woman is encircled with clusters of purple irises, wildflowers and roses, while behind her the morning sky floats pink clouds over a tranquil bay. A tangle of leaves and fruit from a fig tree hang overhead as she leans against its trunk, while a partly-eaten fig rests on a leaf at her side. The aqua pond beside her is filled with blooming pink lotuses as half-visible Koi fish glide through their shadows. She wears a white muslin dress that reveals the youthful curves of her body, which is partially covered by a red silk robe embellished with metallic gold. The interior lining of the robe shimmers as its golden folds spill onto the earth and form a luminous pool beneath her. Impasto brush strokes highlight the entire surface of the painting, adding a tactile dimension to its beauty and charm.
The woman's face reveals the longing of youth for all that life holds in the future, yet her eyes reveal a peaceful satisfaction with the present - as evidenced by the partially-eaten fig sitting at her side. Her limbs are lanky and fold beneath her with ease, symbolic of the pliability of youth, yet she also embodies the confidence and grace of maturity. She has everything she could want in life, and yet she understands that what she now possesses in knowledge and experience is only a fraction of what is yet to be revealed. She is seated on the cusp of transcendence, contemplating the unknown - ready to move beyond the illusions and temptations of youth to discover the mysteries of truth, wisdom, and enlightenment.
The sides are painted in a black satin finish and the work comes ready to hang.
