The Mermaid Garden offers an imaginative glimpse into a mermaid's underwater retreat, hidden amidst colorful flowers, fish and treasures. Candle-laden lotus blossoms glow beneath the stars as they float on the surface of the water above the mermaid's bed, while a full moon lights up a magical night.
The beautiful mermaid stares calmly at the viewer with knowing green eyes and the hint of a smile, as if to say welcome back. Long red locks of hair flow out softly in the waves, in dramatic contrast with the blues and aquas of her surroundings. A golden locket revealing the picture of a special loved one rests lovingly in her hands, suspended by a gold chain around her neck. Her mermaid's tail, covered with incandescent aqua scales trimmed in gold, curves out behind her in a gentle flip that breaks the surface of the water in front of the moon. She wears gold bracelets on her wrists, a golden coin belt around her hips, and a cluster of peacock feathers in her hair. She is a mystery, yet sparks familiarity in the viewer's imagination like an old friend.
This painting offers the viewer an escape from routine into the delightful adventures of the imagination. Beneath the sea, the viewer enters a private sanctuary of sorts; the mermaid herself is symbolic of the promise and impossibility of love, while the ocean represents the unpredictability of life itself. The golden locket reveals how little control we have over whom we love, no matter how improbable the connection. The lotus blossoms with candles floating on the surface represent the wisdom of the higher self and our search for spiritual awareness to help us navigate life's journey. The underwater garden, teeming with living things, represents the richness and fullness of life itself - its beauty ever-present for those who choose to see it.
The sides are painted in a black satin finish, and the work is ready-to-hang.
