Mia’s luminous interpretation of an Abalone shell incorporates a breathtaking array of colors infused with subtle iridescent undertones that mimic a real shell. This large work of art was created using a layering technique that requires dozens of layers of metallic powders, translucent glazes and impasto medium, which are applied one coat at a time over a period of months.
The Abalone shell is surrounded by a variety of smaller shells resting upon a deep bronze background. Within the interior of the shell, individual sections were delicately highlighted with raised textural edging using a gold-infused impasto medium The subtle rainbow of colors in this painting shimmer in the daylight and glow warmly at night, creating a magnificent focal point to enhance any interior space.
The sides are painted in a black satin tone, and the work comes ready to hang.
